Gucci’s resort 2017 collection was a happy mix of british references and alessandro’s daydreams
If you have Instagram there’s a chance you are well aware that Gucci gave us one of the events of the season, their Resort 2017 collection. For the past two years Gucci has been one of the most anticipated shows, we’re all waiting to be amazed by the colors and style mixtures, it’s one of those shows that can impact your mood. The expectations are higher, season after season, and so far Alessandro Michele is still the fashion lovers sweetheart. I really hope he’s able to keep evolving, I would hate to see him repeating “winning formulas”, like Slimane did with Saint Laurent.
Now let’s talk resort 2017. The show was presented in Westminster Abbey and I can imagine the designer felt at home, he’s a lover of all gothic things and the Abbey where royals get married is the ultimate romantic location. The audience consisting of everyone that matters in the fashion business was seated in beautiful green velvet pillows with animals embroidered that were taken home by everyone, that’s how you do party favors. Everyone was there, fashion royals, like Veronika Heilbrunner, Justin O’Shea, Alexa Chung and actual royals like Charlotte Casiraghi.
There were 96 looks in total, which is a high number for a normal collection, but I guess he wanted to put on an astounding show. The usual embellished clothes, Wes Anderson hints and a special reference to british culture, 70’s punk and loads of plaid everywhere. These were all mixed in the most cool way, my favorite was the classic ” Royal Tenenbaums” fur coat with yellow and orange stripes paired with acid washed boyfriend jeans, a head turbant, chandelier earrings, and black strapped shoes worn with white socks.
